Living in North Idaho, we experience a wide variety of weather changes and we want to ensure you are prepared for them all.
LAM Christian Academy communicates any school closures by notifying local TV stations. News stations KREM 2, KXLY 4, and KHQ 6 will broadcast or stream school closures. In most cases, the decision to close school is made around 6:00 a.m. in the morning. Please tune in to your local stations when inclement weather exists.
No bare legs November 1 - March 15
Fleece vests, fleece jackets and crew neck style sweatshirts – hunter green, navy or royal blue – logoed. These items may be worn inside on cold days.
Coats, snow pants, gloves, snow boots – may be worn outside. Snow Boots are to be worn to and from school and at recess but uniform shoes must be worn inside.
It is our policy to have all students go outside unless it is raining, too wet or icy, or if temperatures dip below approximately 20°. We do take sunshine and wind-chill into account. If you would like your child to stay inside during recess or P.E., we must have a doctor’s note stating this. During the cold weather season, please make sure your child has appropriate clothing for recess so that they stay warm and dry. We do not have extra coats and/or gloves available. When weather requires it, coats, snow pants, gloves, and snow boots, all labeled with your child’s name should be brought in a large bag to be worn to and from school and at recess.
Please provide snow gear that is simple to put on and take off for small children, (velcro and zippers rather than laces and fasteners). Practice at home so your children are capable to help in the dressing process. This will help expedite recess time for the students and teachers.
For All Grades:
Label all snow/outerwear. Many children have similar items and this will help ensure your children come home with the correct ones.
It is suggested to send a separate (labeled) bag for all snow gear to be placed into during school hours. This will help cut down on lost items and help your children ensure they don't forget their gear on the way to school.
If your child comes to school during snowy/cold weather and does not have approriate outerwear, they will not be allowed to play in the cold.
During colder weather we suggest your children's shoes have good grip to ensure they do not slip in wet or icy conditions.
