HISTORY
READING
Students are arranged into small, leveled groups according to their reading abilities. Textbook introduces students to a variety of genres with pervasively Christian content.
Groups rotate through three stations:
- Instructional group with teacher where students are guided through the textbook. Students use graphic organizers to build comprehension, to analyze character, plot, setting, and to examine their
own thoughts as they read. Graphic organizers also teach how to infer meaning of new words by context.
- BJU Press Reading Workbook group where students complete exercises related to the text passages. Workbooks reinforce comprehension and build language skills.
- Scholastic Weekly Readers and Saxon Phonics books provide extra reading practice during the rotation. Additionally, students practice their weekly spelling list in this group.
