Teachers

Shelly Matthews, Principal (matthews@lamcda.org)

With a degree in education from Ball State University and a four year old son ready for school, I approached Lutheran Church of the Master to use space to start a preschool in the fall of 1996. With twelve children, two days a week, the school began. God has blessed His endeavor here. I keep listening for how my place in this amazing journey is supposed to look. I have enjoyed my role as preschool teacher, director, art and physical education teacher, and as principal these last fourteen years.

Kim Ramus, School Registrar (ramus@lamcda.org)

Our family became a part of the LAM family when our daughter Kelly was in the 4th and 5th grade. LAM felt so much like family to us that I found myself spending more and more time here. Kelly is now a sophomore in high school. My husband, Darrel and I also have two sons, Kevin and Brian. Kevin is studying Electrical Engineering at the University of Idaho and Brian is in the Army Reserve while attending NIC.

I attended California State University in Sacramento; graduating with a degree in Early Childhood Education. We moved to Idaho in 2003. I enjoy spending time with family and friends, hiking, camping, and bike riding. I love my job at LAM and enjoy the wonderful staff and families that are a part of LAM!

Marcela Charlin, 5th Grade Teacher (charlin@lamcda.org)

Marcela Pappas/Charlin was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She came to the United States when she was four years old. She went to El Camino College where she started a degree in Special Education for the mentally and hearing impaired. However, she changed her focus of education to bilingual education at the university level. She received a B.A. (emphasis in Spanish) and teaching credential from Long Beach State University. She went to Talbot Seminary for one year before starting a family.

Tracy Carlsen, 4th Grade Teacher (carlsen@lamcda.org)

My family and I moved to Coeur d'Alene in June of 2008. Prior to living here, we resided in Valencia, California.

I am married to Steve and we have two children. Lexi will be a high school freshman and Lauren, sixth grade. Steve is a Sales Manager for Wells Fargo in the mortgage area of the bank.

I attended Moorhead State University in Moorhead, Minnesota. Upon graduation, I moved to California to pursue a teaching career. I taught second, third, and fourth grades during my fourteen year career. During that time I obtained my Liberal Studies degree from the University of California Bakersfield. I also started my Master's of Education degree during that time.

I enjoy tennis, running, and hiking with the family. Steve and I attend all gymnastic, volleyball, and tennis events that our children compete in during the respective seasons.

Jennifer Dodson, 3rd Grade Teacher (dodson@lamcda.org)

I have been a part of the LAM school for the last five years. It feels like family! As far as my other family goes, I have been married to my wonderful husband, Chad, for 18 years and we have two great sons! I received my Bachelors of Science in Education from the University of Idaho where I began my teaching adventure. Teaching has always been my passion and I am so thrilled to be able to share that passion with the many children that enter my classroom doors!

Nicky Page, 2nd Grade Teacher (page@lamcda.org)

What a blessing to be here at LAM, and to be a part of these families' lives! I earned my teaching degree from Eastern Washington University, spent a couple years substitute teaching, landed my first full-time teaching position here six years ago, and have been happy ever since! After teaching first grade for four years, I finally graduated to second grade and couldn't be more thrilled to come to "work" every day! When I'm away from LAM (which is not often), I can usually be found hanging out with my son and our dog around our neighborhood park.

Miette Wasson, 1st Grade Teacher (wasson@lamcda.org)

I joined the LAM family in 2006 as the supervisor of the Extended Care Program. In 2009, many opportunities came together and God led me back into my teaching career. I am thrilled to teach first grade! I hold a B.A. in Liberal Studies from Sonoma State University, and earned a post-graduate multiple-subject teaching credential from Dominican University in San Rafael, California. For six years I taught upper elementary grades in a public school district in Santa Rosa, California. I also taught English as a Second Language, and Gifted and Talented Education in that district.

Ellen Ray, Kindergarten Teacher (ray@lamcda.org)

What a blessing it has been for me to be part of this wonderful Christian school. The daily doses of my student's love make my job truly a gift. My educational background is in Early Childhood Education as well as Business. My passion is to lovingly educate each child that comes across my path.

Carolyn Mall, PreK & Bridge Teacher (mall@lamcda.org)

I am a mother of two wonderful young adults; Amanda who is a college student at U of I and Bradley who is a U.S. Marine. Since my children are grown and gone, I decided to go back to school to get my Child Development Associates and am now happily working on getting my hours with the kids. Being back in a classroom after all these years is very exciting to me! My husband and I are custom home builders here in North Idaho. I love playing tennis, being in the great outdoors, camping, boating, biking and of course being with my family and great friends.

Elena DeMata, Preschool Teacher (demata@lamcda.org)

I am so happy to be starting my second year as part of the LAM family. I have a degree in Broadcast Journalism and never thought I would ever be teaching, yet God had other plans for me. I have been working with children for about fourteen years now and loving it. I taught Preschool for four years and was then blessed with the opportunity to stay home. After ten years of educating my kids, teaching Sunday school and directing VBS for my church I was led back to the classroom. Thank you for the opportunity to assist you in the education of your little ones.

Beth Revels, Singapore Lead Teacher & Science Specialist (revels@lamcda.org)

I am pleased to have become part of the Lutheran Academy family this school year. I immediately sensed the feeling of being in a small community of God when I came for my first visit and wanted to become part of it. My husband and I moved here from Salt Lake City a year and a half ago. I grew up in New Mexico where I got my BS in Elementary Education; we also lived in Arizona where I got my MS in Math/Science Education.

Sandy Clemons, Drama, Music, Speech, & P.E. Specialist (clemons@lamcda.org)

I am the mother of four very handsome young men! I have a BS in Speech Communications and have been performing as a musician, actor, model, singer, director, producer, photographer, makeup artist and performance coach for many years. I have appeared on TV, film, stage, radio and a variety of modeling spreads. I also have the honor of being the Worship Leader at Journey Ministries and I teach private voice, piano, guitar, modeling and acting lessons. I am truly honored and amazed God has put me in this position at LAM. I love everything about the arts and am so excited to share this passion with your children.

Karen Lawson, Spanish Specialist (lawson@lamcda.org)

Karen Lawson has 25 years of teaching experience at the elementary level, holding both a Standard Elementary Credential and a Bilingual/Cross Cultural Teaching Certificate (English/Spanish). While in "retirement" she began to write a musical elementary Spanish program, which she now has the pleasure of teaching at LAM.

LaRinda Chapin, Art Specialist (chapin@lamcda.org)

Growing up with a professional artist for a mom has given me a lifelong love of art. My degrees are in writing and in communications from Whitworth University, and my first career was in editing, graphic design and printing, which I left to become a full-time mom thirteen years ago. I have a daughter, who attends another school where I also teach history, literature, writing and art, and a son, who is new to LAM this year. My husband is self-employed doing remodeling work. When it was time for me to return to the working world, God opened doors to put me on the path of teaching.

Roxy Kelly, Lunch Supervisor & Teacher Assistant (kelly@lamcda.org)

Hi, I'm Roxy Kelly and I love summertime and huckleberry milkshakes. I've been married to my husband, Chuck, for 38 years. Our two children, Jennifer and Bryan, are married and are both teachers. Also, our daughter-in-law is a teacher and son-in-law is an architect. My four grandchildren are a great joy in my life.

I've been an elementary librarian in the CDA School District for 23 years. So, I do love children and books! I'm so thankful to be working with the staff at LAM, your children, and especially with my daughter, Mrs. Dodson.

Anna Keller, Extended Care (keller@lamcda.org)

Welcome to LAM Extended Care! My name is Anna Keller and I have worked for and with Lutheran Academy of the Master since 2006. I truly began in 2005 as a volunteer room mom when my daughter was a little lam herself. I have found such joy with this school that I couldn't be more pleased. All of these children show me, everyday, the sheer beauty and grace of God and I can't tell you how much I love sharing that back with each of them. I have been blessed.

Rosy Litz, Extended Care (litz@lamcda.org)

This is my third year working for LAM. I thank Jesus for giving me this opportunity to see His love shining through every child's face and be a witness of all the learning that happens here at LAM.
