2nd Grade
Second Grade Page for February 17, 2012
Information for Week 22 (2/21-2/24)
Greetings, Parents!
Spring Fever is in the air! Early! We have butterflies and flowers in our classroom, and hints of Easter are starting to pop up all around…and it’s almost time for parent-teacher conferences and registration! Conference sign-ups are posted in the hall, by the door across from first grade. I will be available for conferences after school Tuesday and Wednesday the 28th and 29th and all day Thursday, March 1. Ms. Revels will also be available all day Thursday. If you would like her to join us for your conference, please be sure to sign up for Thursday, and please make a note that you would like her to be there. Due to several factors, I will only be available for conferences Friday by special arrangement, so please send me an email or chat with me after school if you NEED your conference to be on Friday, March 2.
Thank you for all the wonderful valentines! Also, a special thank you to Gina for organizing our party and bringing us goodies, and to Angelique for providing the rice krispy treats! We had a wonderful time.
Blessings!
Ms. Page
2nd Grade Happenings:
Math: This week, we’ve focused on mental math with 2- and 3-digit numbers. We’ll be having our first Singapore Math test on Friday. I’m looking forward to seeing how the students do!
Phonics: This week, we’ve learned some new rules for vowel patterns, and we learned about scribal a (a that makes the short o sound). Next week, we’ll learn the sound a makes after qu or w. We’ll also learn the vcccv vowel pattern.
English: This week, we’ve been learning to write letters. Next week, we’ll learn special verbs (linking verbs, helping verbs, verbs that require helpers).
History: This week, we learned about the Punic Wars between Rome and Carthage. Next week, we’ll learn about Roman architecture and engineering.
Spelling: The sentences are now at the top of the list on SpellingCity.com. You can’t practice them on the website, but they ARE there for your reference. You can find our class spelling lists by using the Find A List feature and searching for Nicky Page, or you can go directly to my VocabularySpellingCity homepage at SpellingCity.com/Page2 (as in Ms. Page, 2nd grade).
Other: We’re working more with word processing in Computers. We’ll start practicing typing skills in earnest soon. The students are really enjoying their Bible Ed time with Ms. Wasson, as well. This week in Bible Ed, students will learn about the baptism and temptation of Jesus. Upon Jesus' baptism, God said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased." Matt 3:17
