3rd thru 5th Grade: 12:30pm - 2:00pm
Award Ceremony for 1st thru 5th grades: 2:30pm

LAM Speech Meet on February 18, 2010!!!
*All students in grades K – 5 are required to participate. The criteria are listed below:

  • Kindergarten: a short, memorized Bible verse. This will not be judged, but will be graded for participation.
  • 1st Grade: at least 4-6 lines of a poem, fairy tale, or song lyrics, memorized
  • 2nd Grade: at least 6-10 lines of a poem, fairy tale, or song lyrics, memorized
  • 3rd Grade: at least 10-20 lines of a poem, fairy tale, or song lyrics, memorized
  • 4th & 5th: at least 20 lines of a poem, fairy tale, dramatic monologue,
  • political/historical speech, or song lyrics, memorized

*Pieces must be approved by Mrs. McPherson

Your children may need your help selecting their pieces. In addition to published books, online resources provide a wide variety of appropriate choices. I have found students do best with selections they enjoy about topics they love. Students must have selections by Tues., January 5. On that date, I will assign a piece to each person who hasn’t chosen one by then. To ensure children have enough time to prepare for the speech meet, I won’t allow changes in material after January 12. The main goals of the event are to work on communication skills and to build confidence in public speaking. I’m very impressed with the work they’ve done so far this school year. I’m confident the children will do a great job and the Speech Meet will be a very positive, rewarding experience!
